"Master of Arts in Education -- Early Childhood Area of Concentration"
This program allows practicing teachers to receive a M.A. in Education emphasizing Early Childhood Education, thereby increasing the breadth of their understanding of the education of young children. This program also allows teachers to add Early Childhood Licensure to prepare them to work with children from birth through grade three.

This degree provides a strong background in issues important to teachers of early childhood students, including an emphasis on curriculum and assessment and the skills to work with all aspects of the development of young children.

Maryville’s School of Education has been recognized for its work at the early childhood level by the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, various local school districts, and as part of John Goodlad’s National Network for Educational Renewal. In addition, it has a longstanding history with the St. Louis early childhood magnet school program.

After completion of the early childhood program, candidates find and/or enhance teaching positions in elementary schools and preschools.  Others manage early childhood programs or day care facilities.
