The accounting information systems major meets the dynamic needs of today's students who are interested in the related fields
of accounting and information systems.  This major integrates key elements of both fields and builds on the relationship between accounting and information systems in terms of users, development and reporting.   Topics covered will include computer based accounting information systems, internal control requirements and accounting requirements for the development of intelligent systems.

Students will develop skills that will allow them to be involved
in the system development process from planning and analysis to design and implementation.  In addition, emphasis will be placed
on understanding how transaction cycles and financial reporting
can be systemized effectively.

Advanced technologies, such as data base management systems, distributed data processing and networking will be used throughout the program.  The reinforcement of the disciplines will mean that program graduates will have a wide range of employment choices revolving around the use of systems in the financial planning and management of the organization.

Graduate Business Program
A Master of Business Administration (more. . .) is offered within the John E. Simon School of Business.  The MBA program blends academic study with professional experience in a curriculum that allows the student to apply classroom concept to current employment activities.

Early Access Program
Maryville's Early Access Program (more. . .) lets you earn both a BS and MBA by including twelve hours of graduate credit in your undergraduate degree.

Flexible Scheduling
The accounting information systems program is offered during the day and through Maryville’s Weekend and Evening College, meeting the educational needs of traditional students, as well as working adults. As it has for more than two decades, Maryville’s Weekend and Evening College guarantees its students the same level and quantity of services that are provided to all other students.

These services include:
 Academic Advising
 Financial Aid assistance
Access to computer labs and study rooms at all campus locations
Internet access to library and bookstore services

The accounting curriculum prepares students for careers in auditing, corporate accounting, consulting, governmental and nonprofit organizations and taxation.  The curriculum also offers adequate coursework for those students planning to sit for professional examinations such as the CPA and CMA examinations.  Those accounting students planning to sit for the CPA examination may want to consider Early Access MBA Program to meet the 150-hour requirement for CPAs.

Recent graduates have had great success in sitting for various professional examinations.  For example, one recent graduate was recognized by the Missouri Society of CPAs for receiving the second highest score on the CPA exam.  Another passed the CPA exam and received a Distinguished Performance Certificate for being one of the top tem performers from Missouri.

Many Maryville accounting students participate in professional organizations including the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).
