Your faculty adviser will serve as your guide to help you develop and reach your educational goals. Your plan may change throughout your educational career based on your interests and aspirations, but your adviser will be available to assist you in the entire process. The quality of the advising session is determined by the preparation of the faculty adviser and the student. To assist you in preparing, check out the suggestions listed below.

Student responsibilities to enhance the quality of advising sessions:

Prior to Registration:
Review the degree planning sheet for your major or your major of interest for course requirements.
Review the “Search for classes” on AccessMaryville.
Use the university catalog to review the course content including pre-requisites.
Make a preferred schedule on the course request form. Be sure to keep a balance between courses that require heavy reading, math and science.
Make a “back up” schedule should your first selection be closed.

Prior to any advising appointment, be prepared to discuss:
Your goals and where you are in the process of achieving your goals.
Any concerns you may have or roadblocks for achieving your goals.
Share your successes too! Advisers like to hear about your grades, awards, and club activities.
Involvement in extra curricular activities such as community service, work, clubs and organizations.
