As an undeclared student, you will work closely with an academic adviser. This person will help you with scheduling and career exploration. You can start your exploration process by talking with a staff member about your interests, likes, dislikes and values. Remember, the goal is to choose a major that fits you and that you will enjoy! There are several things you can do at Maryville to make sure your career planning gets off to a strong start:

Preview the university catalog and identify courses that interest you.
Talk with your academic adviser about degree options.
Explore Choices Planner through the Career Education Office in Gander 127.
Join clubs/organizations and participate in activities that you enjoy to gain leadership and teamwork skills.
Get to know the faculty members teaching the courses you enjoy.
Review the career resource books in the Career Education Office.
Visit the Career Education Office for a major seeking/career planning appointment.

You may choose a major anytime during your freshman and sophomore years. Whenever you choose or change your major, it is important to work with your academic adviser. Some majors may have different entrance requirements or require additional years of study.

Check out the MU Real People page, to see what Maryville alumni and students have to say about their major and their exploration process.
