Summer Programs

The Summer Arts Institute Middle and High School Program
The Summer Arts Institute Middle and High School Program offers fine arts instruction and experience for students who have completed grades 5 through 10.  These two-week, all-day, intensive studio programs in drawing,  metalsmithing, painting and ceramics are focused on providing students artistic experiences that expand what they typically have access to in a traditional school setting.  The Summer Arts Institute curriculum focus is on developing each student's artistic and technical skills through hands-on experiences with individual attention and encouragement.  Class size is small.  The program includes a parent/student orientation prior to the start of the first class, and a student exhibition and open house at the close of the program.

Orientation will be held on Friday, June 12 from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Art and Design Building on the main campus of Maryville University

Ages: Students must have completed 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th or 10th grades

Pre-College Art and Design Program
The Maryville University Pre-College Art & Design Summer Program was developed to provide high school students a unique opportunity to build their portfolios while studying with college-level faculty in a highly creative and enriching two week art and design experience.

Students who have completed the 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grades are invited to attend this program.   While prior art class or art experience is helpful, it is not necessary.

Participating high school students will work in a challenging, yet supportive environment on projects intended to develop essential art and design concepts and skills.  By the end of the program, it is expected that many students will have produced art and design projects suitable for inclusion in their college admissions portfolio.

Through this program students will gain foundation skills in art and design; develop Illustrator and Photoshop skills for Macintosh; develop familiarity with traditional tools and materials; use digital cameras; gain confidence in their work; and learn about art and design careers.
