American Studies
If you are an international student who is spending a year in the United States and want to improve your knowledge of the United States and the English language, the American Studies Certificate program is designed for you. In one year, you'll gain a full understanding of U.S. culture, history, arts and literature and still have the flexibility to take courses in your major area of study.
To be successful in college-level classes, international students must be able to write well in English and score at least 500 on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or be equivalently proficient. Those who take the revised TOEFL test after Sept. 24, 2005, will be admitted into the American Studies Certificate program with a speaking sub-score of at least 23 and a combined score of at least 61.
