Set yourself apart as one of the country’s most promising young minds through the Maryville University Distinguished Fellowships Program. This program is designed to help our most talented students compete for distinguished fellowships, such as the Truman, Goldwater, Udall, and Rhodes Scholarships. Distinguished Fellowship nominees from Maryville are talented, independent, and diverse. Winning one of these awards takes you to graduate study at world-renowned academic institutions or to travel in a foreign country where you will have the opportunity to enhance not only your intellectual ability but also to achieve personal growth.
Colleges and universities are invited to nominate students for many of these highly competitive, meritbased awards for graduate study at campuses around the world. The caliber of Maryville students in the past and the quality of the undergraduate education you receive here is recognized throughout the Midwest and the nation. This program has been developed to identify Maryville students that are strong candidates and assist them in competing for these national awards. Fulbright mtvU Award
Award
These Fulbright grants offer recent graduates a chance to study some aspect of contemporary music as a form of cultural expression. This grant funds travel costs, language or orientation expenses, some medical insurance, and living expenses.
What Type of Student Qualifies
A senior devoted to the study of contemporary international music as a form of cultural expression.

Davies-Jackson Scholarship
Award
This award funds students to complete a two-year liberal arts B.A. degree at St. John’s College at the University of Cambridge in England. This award covers all fees, room, and board during two academic years of study at St. John’s College, Cambridge University and summer living expenses. Travel to and from England is also covered.
What Type of Student Qualifies
A senior student who is a first generation college student and who is interested in the liberal arts. Applicants must be U.S. citizen, seniors (at the time of application), and first generation college student. All majors are eligible, but students must be interested in one of the following subjects: Archaeology and Anthropology,Classics, Economics, English, Geography, History, History of Art, Modern and Medieval Languages, Music, Philosophy, or Social and Political Sciences.

Rhodes Scholarship
Award
This award covers tuition and fees at the University of Oxford for 2-3 years of graduate study, plus a stipend for living expenses. Awardees pursue graduate study (masters and doctoral degrees) at the University of Oxford in any discipline. Scholars may not apply for the MBA in the first year, but after completing a different (one-year) master’s degree, they are allowed to pursue a one-year MBA degree. This award also covers the costs of travel to and from Oxford. Students apply through one of the 50 states (either home state or where they attend college).
What Type of Student Qualifies
The best 1% of students overall. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, 18-24 years old, and seniors or recent graduates at the time of Maryville University nomination. All majors are eligible. Applicants must show demonstrated success in athletics (broadly defined).

Marshall Scholarship
Award
The Marshall Scholarship is an award funded by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office for one or two years of graduate study in the United Kingdom to distinguished young Americans who will become leaders, opinion formers and decision makers in their own country. This award covers travel, tuition, books, and other expenses for graduate study at a university in the UK.
What Type of Student Qualifies
A senior with at least a 3.7 GPA who is interested in graduate study in the UK and who plans a career as a leader and contributor to improving UK-US understanding. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. All majors are eligible.

From the Marshall FAQ: “What I can do as a fine/creative arts student in order to prepare a strong application for the Marshall Scholarship? A: The Marshall Commission is always keen to select fine arts students. You should think carefully about the UK Institution you wish to study at, it must offer Masters level courses and be a recognised institution. A strong application is one that demonstrates that the choice of institution has been carefully considered and justification given on why that particular place is the best for that course.” Example from Previous Marshall Student Explaining what they did with their Scholarship: “My year at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, where I completed my Master of Performance in Musical Theatre on the first year of my Marshall Scholarship, was truly the best year of my life. I was not only challenged as an artist but also given the space to grow as a person, surrounded by an extraordinary group of individuals from around the world in a fantastic city. From performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to attending my first Scottish ceilidh, the opportunity to do this creative work with these people in Scotland was an experience that has shaped and inspired me for the rest of my life.”

Fulbright US Student Scholarship for Research/Travel
Award
Fulbright grants fund year-long research or travel projects in international locations. The award covers travel costs, language or orientation expenses, some medical insurance, and living expenses.
What Type of Student Qualifies
A senior who has studied or traveled extensively aboard and who has an interest in doing a research project abroad. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and must hold a B.S./B.A. degree by the time of the award. All majors are eligible.

Morris K. Udall Scholarships
Award
Scholarships of up to $5,000 for tuition, room and board, or other educational expenses awarded to students who have shown interest in the environment, tribal public policy, or Native health care. Additionally, this award funds a four-day summer orientation program.
What Type of Student Qualifies
A sophomore or junior who is planning a career related to the environment or a Native American who is interested in tribal public policy or Native health care.Applicants must be U.S. citizen, U.S. nationals, or U.S. Permanent Residents, full-time sophomores or juniors (repeat applications OK), and GPA of B or better. All majors are eligible.
