President
Mark Lombardi, Ph.D., president of Maryville University, leads one
of
the nation’s finest universities in the Midwest with an excellent
reputation for outstanding programs that serve the greater St. Louis
community
and beyond.
Becoming Maryville’s tenth president in July of 2007, Dr. Lombardi is
committed to leading Maryville in its quest to enhance academic
programs, expand community outreach and raise friends and funds that
will achieve Maryville’s ambitious strategic initiatives.

Dr. Lombardi is recognized for a comprehensive career in academe
including serving as Vice President & Provost (2001-2005) and later
president of the College of Santa Fe (2005-2007). At the University of
Tampa he served as director of the Baccalaureate Experience (1993-95),
director of international programs (1998-2001), chair of the Department
of Government, History and Sociology (1996-2001) as well attaining the
rank of full professor in Political Science. He also served as executive
director of the United States-Africa Education Foundation (1998-2001).
Dr. Lombardi’s fundraising initiatives netted over seventeen million
dollars for projects in the arts, communications, international
programs, technology and student services. In addition, Dr. Lombardi has
done extensive commentary for radio and television on political and
international issues and has traveled extensively in southern and West
Africa, Europe and Latin and Central America. Dr. Lombardi is a noted
author, publishing several articles and three books, including Taking
Sides: Clashing Views on Global Issues (fifth edition), The Unfolding
Legacy of 9/11, and Perspectives on Third World Sovereignty: The
Post-Modern Paradox.
Dr. Lombardi earned a Ph.D. and master’s degree in political science and
international relations from The Ohio State University and a bachelor’s
degree in political science from Purdue University. He and his wife,
Liza Rael, have three adult children. |
