LUNCH AND LEARN
February 1, 12:00-1:15pm in the PCR: Summer Scholarship Information Session
This meeting will be a practical guide for those who are thinking about submitting proposals for summer scholarship funds. In the past, there has been a lack of clarity and specificity about what type of projects are "appropriate" for summer funding, and this session will attempt to give specific examples, a list of "do's" and "don'ts", and strong encouragement for truly innovative work. Please plan to join us!February 8, 12:00-1:15 in Pritchard Seminar Room: Faculty Conversations on Themes from the Critical Thinking Focus Groups
On Faculty Development Day, Tammy Gocial presented, for small group discussion, preliminary themes from the Fall, 2011 Faculty Focus Groups on Critical Thinking. This session is intended for all faculty members who wish to examine or review those findings and discuss the implications for Maryville's formal definition of critical thinking. We look forward to your thoughts!February 29th, 12:00-1:15 in Pritchard Seminar Room: Faculty Conversations on Themes from the Critical Thinking Focus Groups
One more opportunity to examine or review themes from the Fall, 2011 Faculty Focus Groups and discuss the implications for Maryville's formal definition of critical thinking. Your input will be greatly appreciated!March 21st, 12:00- 1:15 in Pritchard Seminar Room: Reports from the 2011 Summer Scholarship Recipients
Pori Borah and Barb DeSanto will describe their summer research projects and how the results of their inquiry are affecting teaching and learning in their classrooms. Pori's project focused on the "implications of the social media landscape." In particular she attempted to identify and understand the tools required in the professional fields such as journalism, public relations, advertising, marketing etc. and to understand the conceptual basis for different kinds of blogging and the various factors that motivate people to blog and to blog successfully. Barb's project focused on developing the concepts and materials needed to provide undergraduate senior and graduate level students with the financial knowledge base and skills needed to be effective international organizational managers. We hope to see you there!
