Partnership with Broadcast Center of St. Louis Announced

podcastMaryville University has announced a new academic partnership with Broadcast Center of St. Louis, beginning in the Fall 2011 semester. Through the partnership, Maryville communication students will be provided expanded course offerings in video production and broadcasting at Broadcast Center.

“Communication is a writing-intensive program focused primarily on ethics and credibility. Credibility includes the ability to produce truly professional, network quality work, including video and audio communication. Maryville is partnering with Broadcast Center so our students will have access to additional technical skills training and resources,” said Barbara DeSanto, EdD, APR, Fellow PRSA. DeSanto is a professor and director of Maryville’s communication program.

Since its inception in 1972, Broadcast Center has been a local leader in broadcast training, providing training for many of St. Louis’ most well-known broadcasters.

“Training at Broadcast Center is one-on-one guidance with professional instructors. Students do not sit in classrooms; they learn through doing and receive practical, hands-on training. The skills and experience our students receive are the needed tools that offer opportunities in a variety of jobs and careers in the broadcast industry,” said Ralph Stanley, president of Broadcast Center.

DeSanto began exploring the partnership after a group of students successfully produced a weekly sports podcast called Saints Talk. She recognized the greater learning potential if students were given broader access to state-of-the-art equipment, hands-on training and experience across the spectrum of audio and visual communication.

Through the partnership, Saints Talk is aired live from Broadcast Center studios.
